Notes, thoughts and jottings from the desk of Calum C. Milne
Welcome to 2017
New Year's Day
I always enjoy New Year's Day - perhaps even more than the Eve. There's a sense of tranquility that pervades this particular day, a stillness as you find yourself glancing back on the last year - but also looking forward to what the New Year may bring.
So will 2017 be another vintage year? I have the feeling that it may - but for the first time we are going to try to share with you some of the more interesting moments, occasions and occurrences that we think you'll enjoy. And I should add that they will not be very wordy... with a few lovely images to help set the scene!
Whilst it's tempting to simply curl up next to the fire with a good book - I'll share a few titles and favourite bookshops in later months - my preference (and definitely for my dog Elan) is for a stroll around Llangoed's acres. All 17 of them! Even at this time of year there's always something to catch the eye and brighten the heart - Adrian our Head Gardener, who you will undoubtedly here from, spent the back-end of 2016 preparing the grounds, gardens and our kitchen garden especially!
And for me there is nothing better than Snowdrops to remind us of the coming Spring - even on a perishing mid-winter day! So as the light fades for the first time this year, I hope that 2017 brings all that you hope for.
