Vintage Rolls Royce & Bentley Acquired
September 2014 - Treat yourself to an authentic Downton Abbey experience!
A vintage Rolls Royce that transported the Queen Mother to royal engagements and a 1934 Bentley used by her husband, and future King Geoge VI, have joined the Llangoed Hall stable.
The 1938 Rolls Royce Tourer and the 1934 Bentley Sports Tourer were bought at auction by the owners of Llangoed Hall at Llyswen, near Brecon, who plan to use them to provide exclusive packages for weddings and afternoon teas. They may even become film stars if film companies show an interest in hiring them.
The rare cars, which cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, will also be used to collect and return guests living within a 40-mile radius of the impressive hotel that nestles in the beautiful Wye Valley on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
The Rolls Royce, complete with drinks cabinet, whisky decanter and glasses, was reputedly a gift by the Queen Mother’s father, the 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. The Bentley was used by the Duke of York before he later became King George VI.
Managing director Calum Milne believes the new acquisitions will be popular for weddings, vintage afternoon teas and any special occasion where guests would like to travel in style in a vintage vehicle.
“We can tailor-make packages to suit our guests’ requirements to add to their Llangoed Hall experience,” he said. “It’s something bespoke and different to offer our guests, many of whom have compared Llangoed Hall to Downton Abbey. The cars fit perfectly with that era when the hall was in its heyday."
